Good afternoon Matt, I am John’s wife Dot, and would like to sincerely thank you for mending my precious Kenwood mixer. I have had it for over 50 years and really missed it when it went wrong and was so relieved when John found out about you. I congratulate you on mending things that might otherwise be thrown away, as I really object and do not like planned obsolescence that a lot of companies do nowadays. I have used it and it is like new and I am really pleased with it. We will definitely recommend you.

Dot and John Blake, via email.

When my faithful Kenwood chef of 30 years started to smoke and then stopped working, I thought that would be it gone forever!

I had so many attachments I use all the time and replacing it with a contemporary model was not in my financial plan!

I found Mat by accident when on holiday in Worthing. I loved his ethos! My feelings are “why Chuck it when you can fix it! “ May was very kind and we arranged a pick up from my mum’s house, which was very helpful as I was visiting Worthing at short notice.

The good news was that I got it back in excellent time, he had reconditioned the motor too and it was gleaming as new! So happy I found you!

I would recommend this business 100%. Thank you! Antonetta, via email.

Hi Amy & Matt, this thank you is long overdue. My parents  bought the Hooray for Hollywood piece for me many years ago and I never believed I would see it working again. So thanks again and hope you have a good Christmas. Dolores Shields, Newton Abbey.

16/12/21

Hi, Matt. Just to say that Laura, my wife, has been using the mixer to make Christmas cake. She’s happy to have it back in action again. Thanks again for fixing it. A happy Christmas to you all. Terry, via email.

Kenwood Chef A901E.    Hello Matt and Amy,  just to let you know I used my Kenwood mixer today and was very pleased to say it was as good as it was years ago. Thank you. Eileen, Worthing.

Bosch Athlet Pro Animal.
It was truly my lucky day when I came across Matt’s site – I was at the end of my tether trying to get any response from Currys and at the point of throwing in (very reluctantly) the towel. I’d had visions of a new power pack which so far as I could see would work out more than the original cost of the cleaner. It transpired it was the charging point on the cleaner which Matt repaired, gave the whole machine a clean (though I had emptied it before taking it to him). We need more people like Matt please. Don’t be shy about contacting him as he’s a very nice normal person with a flair for repairs and a crusader against waste. Oh and if he does carry out a successful repair for you, be sure to give him a packet of biscuits as well as paying his very modest charges. Sally, Kent.

Hi Amy and Matt

Our daughter has delivered the Kenwood to us, about an hour ago, and I have managed to unwrap it. The amount of bubblewrap and tape is staggering – but it certainly does the job.  Janet is busy making the first of four Christmas cakes and three Christmas puddings and commented on how quiet the mixer seems – I noticed that there is a lot less vibration.  Thank you very much for your work and time – it is much appreciated.  We hope that you and your family keep well and safe.  Best wishes for Christmas and New Year.  Take care, Frank.

Excellent service from Matt 5*
Great communication, quick to respond. Fixed my kettle over the weekend and dropped it back to me Monday. Thank you Matt. Would definitely use the service again and recommend to others.

Hi Matt. Just to say thanks again for fixing our Kenwood Chef. Prompt, efficient, and cost effective repair, good to know you are there for such repairs. Kind regards, Derek

I just wanted to drop you an email to say a big thank you for your advice and guidance.  I did as you suggested….well my husband did! and I am pleased to say my mixer is working again.  Thanks again, Matt you’re a star!  Best wishes, Laura (via email).

I just wanted to pop you a thank you!  I live in South Africa and have a Bosch Athlet with exactly the same cut out problem… driving me nuts.  I was SO happy to find your repair video, going to do the same to mine.  Thanks for helping.  Eben (via email).

Hi Matt,

Apologies for delay in writing to you. Thank you so much for the speedy and very successful repair to our elderly Kenwood Chef A901. The Chef has had, thanks to you, a new lease of life and is performing as new. It was a lucky day that I found your video on the net.  Kind Regards, Vernon.

Hi Matt

Thanks for your response. I removed the retaining strap that then allows you to more fully open the top of the mixer. I was the able to remove the 3 connectors on the control unit. At this point I ordered a new control unit from eBay. I then took the control unit in my machine apart (with the confidence that if I broke it I had a new one coming!).

It turned out that a small spring runs on a control ring with posts and humps on it. The spring had got itself into the wrong place which limited the distances I could move the control knob. I pushed it back in place, reassembled; and all is now well.

I then got an email from PayPal and eBay saying the vendor had cancelled due to no stock !!!

Good to know you are in Worthing. I live in Pulborough and LOVE mending things just as you do.

Thanks again, Richard, Pulborough, West Sussex

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your reply and helpful videos. I had already found LKS but they were out of stock. I then found an e-bay supplier, received the kit and fitted it yesterday. As far as I know, it was a successful repair although haven’t yet used the mixer for any real work.

It was certainly worth the effort as it only cost £14 or so and potentially saved close to £300. Not bad for a machine approaching 40 years old! My initial thoughts were that I would need to replace the motor which looked like it would cost £60 or so and made the repair route a bit marginal on such an old appliance. I was therefore delighted to find your videos.  Thanks again, Roger.

I have just been reunited with my beloved Kenwood Chef mixer which, after many, many years of faithful service spluttered to a stop when the speed control failed. How lucky were we to discover Matt of Fix It Workshop! Not only did Matt contact us a few hours after we had dropped off the machine to reassure us that the problem could be fixed, but he has restored the mixer so it works and gleams like new, even sporting a new set of feet. All quickly fixed so I can mix up plenty of treats in time for my husband’s big ‘0’ birthday next month. Thank you Matt!  Wendy, Worthing.

This was my coffee machine. Those of you who know me realise that I cannot start to function in the morning until I’ve had my cup of coffee so it was with some trepidation that I left my beloved Gaggia in the hands of a DIY stranger. I should not have worried. I could not had left it in better hands. Matt is friendly, thorough and very knowledgeable.  If you are prepared to wait a bit (he only does this in his spare time in his man cave) you will not be disappointed. He does a brilliant job. Highly recommended. Lesley, Hastings.

What great service from Matt.

My Dyson’s beaters had stopped spinning and despite trying a new head, it still didn’t work.

Matt stripped the machine back, found the fault and fixed it, adding extra protection to the wires that had sheared to stop it happening again.

He also serviced the machine for me, replacing the filters and gave it a good clean.

It came back in a nearly new condition and hopefully will have many years of use left in it.

Saved me nearly £200 for a new machine and less to landfill.

Thank you! Chris, Worthing.

Would just like to thank you for the amazing video of the internal workings of the Fisher Price Record player. The pictures were clear and your narrative of the steps you took to repair the record player was both informative and easy to understand.

I have since watched  your videos of other items you have repaired  and am very impressed at how you have ‘resuscitated ‘ items which most people would have consigned to the dustbin.

Thank you too for your swift responses to my questions  which were received the same day as posted.

You will certainly be my first port of call with any future problems.  Linda, via email.

Within a few days of being home from hospital we needed to use the trusty Tommee Tippee milk machine for baby number two. The loft hadn’t treated the machine well and it wouldn’t work! 2 am feeds boiling a kettle were not fun. Matt fixed the machine within a day and saved our sanity, making us feel just a little bit more like we could cope. Thank you matt! Kate, Worthing.

Dyson working very well and looks great.

Hoovering up like it’s brand new, it’s even got the bits of tinsel that have been moving around since Christmas!  Very grateful for not having to look for a replacement.  Thanks again, Elizabeth, Worthing.

Many thanks to Matt for the superb job he did with my electronic drum kit. I was certain I was going to need to replace the parts or possibly the whole thing but Matt proved that almost anything is fixable with the right attitude.

Matt had the equipment for only a few hours and was able to quickly fix what I assumed would be a horrible job.

The budding drummers of Sussex can continue bashing away! Thanks again Matt, I’ll be following the blog to learn more.  Best Regards, Scott

Not thinking that anyone could ever repair my over 40 year old Kenwood Chef after it bellowed smoke on Christmas Eve, (and was it worth repairing?), I decided to google the possibility of it being given a new lease of life, and lo and behold I found Fix It Workshop! What an incredible service. Not only was the communication with Matt spot on, the repairs and service were second to none. Upon collection (I live in the same town), Matt explained the work he had undertaken and reasons why. Don’t ever discard anything before consulting Fix It Workshop – a great man doing a great job and reducing waste too. Highly recommended. Thanks Matt. Linda. Worthing.

Thanks for the Custard Creams too, linda.  Matt.

Matt is providing an invaluable service.  Not only has he repaired my forty five year old Kenwood Chef, he has prevented it being sent for scrap.  The service is excellent.  Matt is a very pleasant young man.  He works from a meticulously organised, and well equipped workshop.  I will have no hesitation in going to him again and will recommend him to my friends.  Joan.  Woodmancote.

A big thanks to you Matt for fixing our much treasured Kenwood Chef A901E as it is now back to perfect working order. It was given to us as a wedding present over 35 years ago form a relative who is no longer with us and it wouldn’t have been right to have given up on it without a fight.  Simon & Mandy.  Potters Bar.

After finding Matt’s YouTube video and website, and watching his amazing restoration of an old Fisher Price toy record player, I sent him an online request for help or advice with the one I had just bought on eBay and which wasn’t working properly. He sent a response which was both friendly and helpful. The website is fascinating: in this age of waste, his determination to avoid discarding broken items without trying to fix them first is admirable. When I start clearing the loft I suspect I’ll be unearthing items that need his attention! Thanks again, Matt, for your assistance. Veronica G. Somerset.

I can thoroughly recommend the services of the Fix it Workshop.  My Dyson was repaired very quickly and new filters fitted at  a very reasonable cost.  I am sure it would have cost me considerably more to have taken it somewhere more well known and probably they would have told me it was beyond repair and suggested I buy a new one. It is well worth letting Fix It have a look at items that are not working even if you think that are beyond repair or too old. Jill, Worthing.

My beloved Bosch hoover had stopped working properly, it kept cutting out wasn’t sucking up properly.  I left it at FixItWorkshop. Within a couple of days I have a hoover back that is like brand-new.  It had an electrical issue which had been fixed along with a dangerous plug fixed which I wasn’t even aware of.  Not only that, it is a clean as new and I swear it’s working better than ever before!  Very reasonable too. I highly recommend FixItWorkshop for a super friendly service from someone who clearly knows their stuff!  5 stars from me! Thank you.  Rachel C.  Worthing.

  2. Hi Matt,
I too, had a Bauhn DAB FM Radio of the model you worked on. First mnf’d in Sept.’17 and sold in Aldi – with a 3 yr. warranty, so still covered.
Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce the very clear video showing how to repair it!
Mine stopped working with the power adaptor [but STILL worked (temporarily) with batteries!]. Being a typical female, I tried the easy route, i.e. getting Aldi to provide a new cable – BUT Aldi’s source (Tempo) no longer have them in stock. The output spec was a “one off” for this radio, apparently – DC 5.9v 0.6A – and NOT easily available from retail/online outlets.
All I’ve gotta’ do now is find someone with a soldering kit…..
    Many thanks again! Rgds, Sue

  5. My Miele vacuum cleaner was throwing out sparks from the plug then stopped working. I changed the plug (without correctly exposing the metal filaments it later transpired) and asked Matt to take a look . It was an expensive machine to disregard too easily. He corrected my wired plug and gave it a wash and brush up too so it is now quite smart and running well again. This has saved me buying a new vacuum cleaner! Thank you

  6. Great service from Matt!
We received a kind and caring service from Matt, I’m very satisfied with his service and wouldn’t hesitate to use Matt’s services again! I had a toy buzz lightyear who’s light had stopped flashing he was quick to identify the problem but unfortunately in this case he could not risk breaking the plastic on his wing to actually get to the wiring (which I did expect to be the case) that aside, I could see Matt is very passionate about his job and helping people with their in our case treasured toy! Thanks slot Matt for your caring service and I know where to go for next time for sure! Terri

  12. I have an old Kenwood Chef which has been fantastic over the 40 years which I have had it but the liquidiser had given up the ghost and although spun around would not liquidise anything. I thought about trying to get a new one but then I found Matt’s site. Why do we throw so much away when with a little effort on my part and great knowhow from Matt he solved the problem and also overhauled the whole machine. I think sometimes it is too easy to buy new from the Internet and have it delivered to the house the next day. Great service and good price so would recommend Matt’s service to everyone.

  17. I have read your Blog piece on Tag: endon and I am pleased to say it helped me as a UK user and the fitting of 2 new touch sensitive units. However it turns out that after reading elsewhere on the Net that my problem with my 2 lights was not with the Dimmer Units, but with my Mains Wi-Fi unit plugged into the same Mains double socket. Something to do with the Radio Waves affecting the Dimmer Units response. I unplugged the Wi-Fi unit and moved it to another socket in the same room, and all working properly now.
    But thanks anyway!
